Art Basel is the central event of the global contemporary art market. The four editions across the year (Basel in June, Miami Beach in December, Hong Kong in March, Paris+ in October) concentrate the gallery community, the senior collector cohort, the institutional curators and the museum trustees into four cities at four specific dates. For UHNWI collectors and patrons operating across the fair calendar, Art Basel is both the most important access moment of the year and the most logistically demanding.
The Discerned Few covers Art Basel as a logistics and access category. The collecting itself is between the collector and the galleries; what we cover is everything around it. The VIP preview access coordination, the gallery dinners that run alongside, the satellite fair programmes, the accommodation, the ground transport across the fair days, and the asset transportation for purchased works.
The VIP Preview structure
Each Art Basel edition runs a structured VIP Preview programme across two to three days before the public opening. First Choice (Monday at Basel and Miami; the equivalent senior tier at Hong Kong and Paris+) is the most senior access tier, with the participating galleries reserving the senior works for First Choice viewing. Vernissage (Tuesday) is the broader VIP day; Preview cards are allocated by Art Basel\'s VIP team and by the partner galleries to their senior collectors.
Access at First Choice is structurally not for sale. It is allocated through Art Basel\'s collector relations team and through the participating galleries\' senior collector relationships. Principals arriving at the fair for the first time without these established relationships are typically allocated Vernissage access at best; First Choice requires the longer relationship.
The four editions
Basel in June is the senior edition of the calendar, with the largest gallery participation and the most senior institutional presence. Accommodation in Basel is constrained (Les Trois Rois, Grand Hotel Euler, Pullman Basel Europe), and the senior client cohort often positions in Zurich or in nearby Alsatian and Black Forest properties, commuting in.
Miami Beach in December is the major American edition, paired with the Design Miami fair and an extensive satellite programme. Accommodation centres on the Setai, Faena, Four Seasons Surfside and Edition. The Miami fair window has the most extensive satellite hospitality programme of the calendar.
Hong Kong in March is the major Asian edition. Accommodation centres on the Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons, Rosewood and Upper House. Paris+ in October (the Paris fair Art Basel acquired from FIAC) is held at the Grand Palais and pairs with the broader Paris autumn art season. Accommodation centres on the Ritz, Bristol, Crillon and Plaza Athénée.

Gallery dinners and satellite programmes
The dinner calendar that runs alongside each Art Basel edition is the operational core of the senior collector\'s engagement with the fair. Gallery dinners, museum trustee dinners, foundation events, private collection openings: the calendar is dense and the invitations are managed through long term relationships. The featured providers we cover hold the operational discipline to coordinate the principal\'s schedule across the satellite calendar without the principal needing to engage with the calendaring directly.
Asset transportation for acquisitions
Works acquired at the fair are typically shipped from the gallery rather than collected from the fair stand. The gallery handles the export documentation, the insurance and the chain of custody to the collector\'s destination. For collectors moving multiple acquisitions across destinations, the featured asset transport providers we cover coordinate consolidation, customs broker relationships and final delivery. See our asset transportation coverage for the full operational standard.
